Why Most Affiliate Links on Reddit Fail (And How to Fix Yours)

If you’re dropping affiliate links all over Reddit and getting zero clicks, zero upvotes, and zero conversions… there’s a reason.

Redditors aren’t dumb. They know an affiliate link when they see one. And most of the time, they hate it.

Reddit Hates Ads

That’s the starting point. Unlike other platforms, Reddit users aren’t browsing to shop.

They’re there to learn, share, or argue (let’s be honest).

If your comment feels like a sales pitch, you’re getting downvoted or buried. Fast.

That’s why value always comes first.

How to Actually Make It Work

Here’s what I do, and what works consistently:

1. Be genuinely helpful​
Your comment should answer the question or solve the problem in the thread.

Give real input.

Share your experience.

Make it feel natural.

2. Keep it simple​
No buzzwords. No hype.

Just talk like a regular human. A comment that sounds like a casual chat always outperforms one that reads like an ad.

3. Only link when it makes sense​
Don’t spam your link under random threads. I usually link products only when:

• Someone asks for a recommendation
• They’re unsure if a product is worth it
• They’re comparing alternatives or competitors

That’s when people want help: and are most likely to click.

4. Blend the link into the conversation​
Say something like:

Natural. No pressure. Way more effective.

What You Might Be Missing

Some subreddits block links automatically.​
Even if your comment is gold, it won’t go through if there’s a link in it.

These subs have auto-filters that instantly flag or delete anything with a URL.

Don’t fight it.

Don’t waste time.

Just move on to another subreddit where you can actually post.

Don’t Ignore Your CQS

Your Contributor Quality Score (CQS) is crucial.

If it’s too low, Reddit will silently hide your comments. Especially if they include links.

You might think you posted, but no one else sees it. Nightmare, right?

Want to check your score? Just comment in r/cqs and the bot will tell you your tier.

To keep your CQS high:

• Don’t spam
• Post and comment like a real person
• Avoid controversial behavior
• Keep your account secure and active
